In this episode, we tackle our first listener episode of the year. After holding this one in our back pocket for far too long, we finally get a chance to check it out by way of Screambox. So join us as we check out Cristian Ponce’s History of the Occult from 2020. Dustin celebrates the film’s genre mashup of surreal brainteaser mixed with a political thriller. Jason struggles to define the particular qualities he found lacking in the movie. We also toss in a mini-review of Screambox as a platform. And so much more!
Special thanks to @Urban_Groucho for suggesting we check this one out. Got a movie you champion? A hidden gem you think needs more love? Just want to see more discussion on a particular film? Ultrasound (2021)
Thanks for picking this movie, it’s been a while since I’ve seen it and now I’ll have to go and rewatch it. Obviously I’m totally with Dustin on this one, but I can see where Jason is coming from. Love the episodes where there are different opinions.
I must admit that this time I really felt the absence of Michael more than with the other non-Michael-Episodes, but I’m sure that feeling will slowly fade (until he makes a guest-appearance and rips open our healing wounds). He was in my head making his fun comments though. Maybe we should pressure him back with those Photos I have of him with Jason, that bunny costume and glitterly juggling Balls* ; )
With Ultrasound next (which you recommended in an earlier episode and I watched and liked a lot), there’s practically a theme of “reality-bending-movies” you’ve got going there. And I’m digging it. Good work guys.

We miss Michael a lot too. But don’t worry, he will definitely be hopping back in now and again a special guest when we hit on certain topics that he will be unable to resist hopping in to discuss. But those photos may just work. It is the Year of the Rabbit after all…
